AFL12 PROFILES & PLAYBOOKS

PROFILES

ALL offensive profiles have 1st half AFL 4th down logic assigned to them.  That is, they will NOT go for it on 4th down under any circumstance.  As new or custom profiles are added I will list them here.

OFFENSE
Offensive PROFILE % PASS/RUN DESCRIPTION
AFL 60-40 This profile is directly from the Classic Pass profile, with a few adjustments.  Specifically to using more middle runs & the QB sneak in certain short yardage situations.
*Classic Balanced-No Panic(NP) 50 - 50 The original Balanced profile that will not adjust to score.  Basically, this profile will continue to run 50/50 pass vs run plays regardless of score.  1st half will follow this until the 2:00 minute warning.  2nd half will follow this until 5:00 minutes in contest.
*Classic Run-No Panic(NP) 40 - 60 The original Run profile that will not adjust to score.  Basically, this profile will continue to run 40/60 pass vs run plays regardless of score.  1st half will follow this until the 2:00 minute warning.  2nd half will follow this until 5:00 minutes in contest.
*Classic Pass-No Panic(NP) 60 - 40 The original Pass profile that will not adjust to score.  Basically, this profile will continue to run 60/40 pass vs run plays regardless of score.  1st half will follow this until the 2:00 minute warning.  2nd half will follow this until 5:00 minutes in contest.
Classic Balanced 50 - 50 The profile that has driven many championships in the GNFL.  Originally created by Brad Bridgwater, it has been updated by the GNFL using new 4th down logic as well as improved 2 minute play calling & time management.
Classic Run 40 - 60 Will run 60% of the time.  Sometimes will run to a fault, but will pass if you fall behind.
Classic Pass 60 - 40 60% passing vs 40 % rushing.  Will go to a more rushing attack if winning.
Classic Run & Shoot 70 - 30 Drastic improvements allow for more middle runs & 30 % chance of runs between the 35 & 35.
PWR + 30 - 70 70% rushing vs 30 % passing.  So, you want to run & run up the middle?  This is the profile for you.  Improved play calling on 1st & 2nd down provide more runs than passes.  Not for the weak running back, but the one that can break tackles up them middle.
Red Wolf 65 - 35 A 65 % pass, 35 % run profile.  It is meant to be run with the Red Wolf playbook. The profile uses many "random" plays for all yardages.  It is not predictable.  Will go for it on short yardage situations even when team is ahead.
Fun - N - Gun 80 - 20 Let's have some fun & throw this pig all over the place.  If you want to pass a lot, this is the one to go with.  It will refrain late in the game if you have a lead though.  20% of running on 1st & 2nd downs, a higher percentage in short yardage situations.

DEFENSE
DEFENSIVE Profile Description
'CLASSIC' RUN Play calling will center around stopping the run unless the opposition falls behind.  The larger the deficit, the less this profile will call run defense. 40% pass calls, 60 run calls.
'CLASSIC' PASS The opposite from the run profile as this will call pass defense 60% & run defense 40%.  It will adjust itself when the score changes however.
'CLASSIC' BALANCED 'Based' off of the Run profiles, this profile will call 50% run - 50% pass plays on 1st - 2nd downs when the ball is located 35><35 .   Weighted to change when the score is ahead & behind as well as short/long yardage situations.
AGGRESSIVE RUN Calls a higher percent run left defenses which are more man to man coverage's and fewer cover two and zone coverage's. Most plans have a very high percent of run left plays that are blitz's.
CONSERVATIVE RUN Calls higher percent run right defenses which are more conservative zone and read coverage's. Most plans have a lower number of run rights that are blitz plays.
MODERATE RUN Calls a higher percent run middle defenses which are more of a mix of cover two and man coverage's. Most plans have a more even mix of run middles that are blitz plays.

 PLAYBOOKS

Many of the plays found in these playbooks came from FBPRO sites all over the net.  Some are stock plays & others are custom.  I have done my best to include plays that in my opinion work within our structure.

**All OFFENSIVE playbooks are available in ALL profiles.  All playbooks are available in NO AUDIBLE format.

**All DEFENSIVE playbooks are available in ALL profiles, though many are corresponding.  All playbooks are available in NO AUDIBLE format.

OFFENSES

A note on most playbooks:  AFL12 offensive playbooks contain a "Hail Mary" play which only will be used @ .15 seconds left in the half or 2nd half depending on score & position.

**Offensive playbooks listed below have "sister" playbooks with a different punt/punt coverage play included.  They are designated with a (pr) next to the playbook name.

Book Name Balanced Playbooks
GNFL A playbook that has plays from all the other playbooks. 55% old, 45% from new playbooks.  I've tried to take the most successful plays from all the playbooks & place them in this one. This playbook & the WFL playbook have the most balanced plays among all playbooks. 24 running plays, 40 passing plays.  WFL offensive plays-35 / Spread - 9 / Power - 10 / West Coast - 10.
IRON WOLF Plays drawn from all playbooks, the Iron Wolf has an equal number of running plays(32) vs passing plays(32). Running plays are 24 for HB, 8 for FB.  Passing plays are WR1(10), WR2(2), WR3(2), WR4(4), TE(8),HB(3), FB(3).  All offensive formations are as such:  T1-G2-C1-G1-T2 .The playbook was designed to utilize the TE & FB on more basic plays as well as specific pass-run plays directly to them.  WR1 comes out on many running plays allowing rest & better performance late in games.
TOMAHAWK ***NEW FOR 2038*** The plays favor a more passing attack but the run game has successful plays that make it more of a balanced playbook. 75% of plays are drawn from Gatling Gun & Back Attack.  The plays used achieve anywhere from 30% to 70% positive completions.  Pass distribution is WR1 50% of the time.  The remaining WR2, WR3, WR4, TE1 & FB1 split the remaining 50%.  Run plays are 80% HB1 with FB1 rushing 20%.
WFL Created by Brad Bridgwater, this playbook is very balanced. It utilizes a combination of "I" formations, one back sets & a few run & shoot plays. The WFL playbook has 24 running plays, 40 passing plays. The running plays include many sweeps & up the middle runs.  Pass plays are a wide variety.  You can't go wrong using this playbook....it has been proven to be a winner.

Book Name Rushing Playbooks
GAMEBREAKER Utilizes the HB, FB and TE heavily in this offense.  Very much a clock control offense with hopes of wearing down a defense by consistently pounding the ball down the throat of your opponent.  The playbook is to run out of the Pro Set formation & pass out of it as well. Many runs between the tackles for both FB and HB as well as sweeps for the HB only.  Medium passing routes dominate the passing scheme with the TE being a major target.   This playbook has 32 running plays and 32  passing plays. The defense should plan on having plenty of rest to face this offense.
MONSTER BACK This book is designed to have the HB run plays off tackle & then run it outside if needed.  Generally, the backs run out of the power 'I' formation with a FB lead blocker.  Most passing plays have the QB in the shotgun position to see the field & make better decisions in theory.
POWER PLUS An emphasis on inside runs, rollout passes, outside sweeps. Very few passes to the tight end & very few FB runs.  Coupled with the PWR+ profile, this is a conservative playbook if you are playing from ahead.  Will allow for teams to come back if they fall behind with the passing game.

Book Name Passing Playbooks:
GATLING GUN ****NEW for 2036**** Playbook has 48 passing plays, many roll outs.  16 running plays.  QB is in the shotgun 75% of the time.  Based on 65% of the K-Gun playbook, this playbook has no repeat plays.  Primary receiver plays are: TE(11), WR1(17), WR2(9), WR3(5), WR4(4), HB(2). Offensive lines up T1-G2-C1-G1-T2.  More 3 receiver sets than 4 receiver set.  Running plays are straight out of the K-Gun playbook with updated O-Line formations.  Fullback only has a goal line carry but is used in some blocking schemes. Playbook also includes a QB sneak on goal line plays & a designated Hail Mary play.
AFL ****NEW for 2027**** - All plays are from existing playbooks(9) but have been altered so that only starting players are in each play.  There are no duplicate plays.  Emphasis is on the passing game with all players having nearly equal opportunity as primary receivers. Running plays are built around middle runs with a 80/20 HB to FB ratio.  Breakdown of passing plays: 40 passing plays, 23 running plays, 1 Hail Mary.  The following players are 'primary' receivers:  TE(5 plays) / FB(1 play) / HB(6 plays) / WR1(11 plays) / WR2(6 plays) / WR3(5 plays) / WR4(5 plays) / WR5(1 play).   The following players are 'primary' ball carriers: HB1(18 plays) / FB1(4 plays).  This playbook works BEST with the AFL profile.
BACK ATTACK A maximum protection offense that utilizes HB1, FB1 and HB2 in the run game and a sound mixture of passes to WR1, WR2 & TE1 plays as well. It is designed to counter the Wrecking Crew defense's constant blitzing and reduce the amount of sacks to almost none. It is run out of the Pro Set formation for most running plays and pass plays as well. Short to medium length passing routes dominate the passing scheme with 3 RECEIVERS being the primary targets.  Depending on the profile, running the ball should be the primary way of attacking the defense.
RUN & SHOOT If you like passing & plenty of it, this is your playbook.  Tight Ends rarely see the field & 4 wide receiver sets are the norm.  Running plays are few & far between, even when a team gets a substantial lead. The RUN & SHOOT is not for everyone. Run & shoot playbook has 11 running plays & 53 passing plays. I have not seen it succeed on a long term basis, i.e. using it for both halves of a game.  The playbook uses its own scheme, the run & shoot scheme which is 70% pass, 30% run.  Tends to give up many sacks.
RED WOLF Derived from over 600 Run & Shoot plays.  These are some of the best & a few of the not so best Run & Shoot plays out there.  It only seemed logical to include some(not that many) plays that were not as successful.  Don't get me wrong though, the blocking schemes in this playbook are good.  Many 5 wide formations.  Many inside runs.  Many slants.  A fun playbook for the not so conservative team owner.
SPREAD The QB operates almost exclusively out of the shotgun which allows for a quick passing attack to take place.  Runs are a variety of up the middle & sweeps.  The wide receivers, tight ends & half backs are all significant contributors in this offense. This playbook has 20 running plays & 44 passing plays.  I really thought this playbook was the most effective due to the QB getting rid of the ball in a timely manner.  This playbook very well could be the one that is used by most teams due to its simplicity.  The TE is not in on all plays but is a factor in this playbook.
AIR RAID Playbook has 48 passing plays, 16 running plays.  QB is in the shotgun for passing plays 100% of the time.
K-GUN Playbook has 48 passing plays, many roll outs.  16 running plays.  QB is in the shotgun 75% of the time.
PISTOL Playbook has 36 passing plays, 28 running plays.  Lots of roll outs, almost all plays out of the shotgun.  Lots of variety.
WEST COAST Playbook has 40 passing plays, 24 running plays.  Base offense with WR1, WR2, WR3, TE1, HB1 & HB2.  Fullback is rarely used.  WR4 is only in for a couple of plays.  Outside runs account for 2/3rds of the running plays.  15 passing plays are long with the remainder 25 a mixture of short and medium.

DEFENSES

**Defensive playbooks listed below have "brother" playbooks that include a 2 man kick return play included. They are designated with a (2) next to the playbook name.

Book Name BALANCED DEFENSIVE PLAYBOOKS

GNFL 4-3 New for 2014, the GNFL 4/3 is a 4 down lineman, 3 linebacker, 4 defensive back formation with equal number of man to man & zone pass coverage plays.  Mixed in with this neat little playbook are some occasional blitz packages with bring LB1, S1 & CB1 from time to time.  Though different plays are in this book, it will play much like the classic 4-3 defense the league has grown to love.
4-3 4 down linemen, 3 linebackers & 4 defensive backs.  Uses a combination of man to man & zone coverage's.   Schemes include the 4-3 Run, & 4-3 pass.  Run scheme calls more running plays, pass scheme calls more passing plays.  Probably the safest defense when stopping the run.
3-4 3 down linemen, 4 linebackers & 4 defensive backs. Uses a combination of man to man & zone coverage's. Schemes include the 3-4 Run, & 3-4 pass.  Run scheme calls more running plays, pass scheme calls more passing plays.  Very good at containing a passing attack, but is susceptible to giving up long outside runs.
3-4 HYBRID Almost an equal number of 3-4 & 4-3 defensive plays in this playbooks. Combination of zone coverage & man to man.  What I like about this playbook is that it allows linebacker 4 & defensive tackle 2 to be subbed in & out throughout the game when a 3-4 to 4-3 play is called.  Could be very valuable late in a game to have a fresh player enter.  Only testing was don on a game to game basis. Schemes include 3-4HYBRID Run & 3-4HYBRID Pass.
3-4 MANIAC **NEW FOR 2039** Aggressive 3-4 defensive plays in this playbooks.  Equal number of pass plays vs run plays at 32 each.  Almost exclusive 3-4 alignment with at times 2 down linemen & 4 linebackers.

Book Name RUN STOPPER DEFENSIVE PLAYBOOKS
DOMINATOR ****NEW FOR 2036****The Dominator playbook is an updated version of the AFL W-Crew. 36 original plays remain with updated player positions allowing for starters to play more than backups.  28 additional plays have been added from the following:  33 Cobra, GNFL 4-3, 3-4 Hybrid, Zone Blitz, Cover II.  There are no duplicate plays.  There is a designated Razzle Dazzle play to coincide with the offense Hail Mary play.  Less aggressive than the AFL W-Crew.
AFL W-CREW It is a very aggressive hybrid 34/44 defense. 34's are based on the Pittsburgh Steelers zoneblitz defense, 44's are based on the 60 Junkyard Dog defense. Line and linebacker alignments are set to AFL12 43 standards, MLB=LB1, WLB=LB3, SLB=LB2 and LB4=LILB. This is so teams do not have to make roster changes to move from the standard 43 to the Wrecking Crew.
33 COBRA A defense similar to what Gunther Cunningham ran when he was the "Mad Scientist" defensive coordinator with the Chiefs. 34 personnel with LB1 playing a rover position, primarily a blitzer. Combination coverage's from m2m to cover 3 zone and combination blitzes from all over the field.
BUDDY 4-6 2/3 of the running plays are true 4-6 formation.  Nearly running plays, medium passing routes are 4-6 formation.  Short  & long passing plays are 4-3 formations. What the formations look like:  A variety of formations on all plays, but on running plays the formation on the line includes 4 down linemen & 2 linebackers.  This formation changes from time to time with having 5 or 6 on the line including linebacker & safety.  Medium passing plays have 2 DE's & 2 LB's on the line.  Short & long passing plays have the traditional 4/3 formation.
ZONE BLITZ A 3/4 defense modeled after the Pittsburgh Steelers zone blitz scheme.  Very aggressive blitzing plan, with many plays featuring defensive linemen dropping back into coverage.
4-3 DESERT SWARM 45 Running plays, 19 passing plays.  Emphasis on stopping the run.
4-3 MAD DOG 46 Running plays, 18 passing plays.  Emphasis on stopping the run. Uses a lot of CB3, DE3 & LB3 rotations on the line.  Base 4-3 defense

Book Name PASS DEFENSIVE PLAYBOOKS
4-3 MAN Same as above but 95% of the plays are man to man coverage in rushing & passing.  However, the computer will call audibles into zone coverage from time to time.  This playbook was only tested on a game to game basis.  Schemes include: 4-3M Run & 4-3M Pass.
3-4 MAN Same as above but 95% of the plays are man to man coverage in rushing & passing.  However, the computer will call audibles into zone coverage from time to time.  This playbook was only tested on a game to game basis.  Schemes include 3-4M Run & 3-4M Pass.
4-3 COVER II Features a number of 2 & 3 deep safety zones with a base 4/3 formation.  Designed to be similar to the infamous Tampa Bay II defense.  Most pass rush comes from the front four with limited blitzing. A bend but don't break defense.
FUN BUSTER 28 running plays, 36 passing plays. This playbook was designed to slow down if not stop the Fun-N-Gun profile.
WOLFKILLER 20 running plays, 44 passing plays.  Designed to compete with the Red Wolf and Iron Wolf playbooks.
